Artist in Residence 1994-2018
Mrs. Schutt has been teaching Art and core classes at St. Mary's since the 1994-1995 school year. Previous to that she taught grades K-3 for two years in a two room country school house. The Omaha Summer Arts Festival named Mrs. Schutt "Art Teacher of the Year" 2010. Mrs. Schutt has a Bachelor of Science Degree from Dana College where she majored in Elementary Education with a second major in Art. She says, "Teaching art and creativity helps kids think outside the box. It helps with problem solving skills, and helps bring creativity into their writing and classroom projects." Mrs. Schutt says, "Making art also gives them a sense of accomplishment." These skills go with them long past their school years. She has noticed in the last few years several St. Mary's alumni are pursuing art related majors in college.
Mrs. Schutt commutes from Gretna every day to St. Mary's. Her husband's name is Bob and they have two daughters: Wendy Schutt, and Caitlin Lewis, who is married to Tim Lewis (a St. Mary's alum). Tim and Caitlin have two sons which makes me a proud grandma.

Mrs. Thompson is a graduate from Colorado State University where she earned a degree in History and a minor in Biology. She received her Master's degree from College of St. Mary in the Art of Teaching. She has taught at St. Margaret Mary in Omaha and Ralston Middle School in both science and social studies. Prior to that, Mrs. Thompson was a paraprofessional for Papillion La Vista school district in special education. She enjoys working with middle school students. She likes their high energy and challenging their emerging critical thinking skills. She tries to engage students in hands on activities and inquiry investigation. She is currently taking part in a workshop that focuses on improving social studies education and reading.
Mrs. Thompson and her husband of 16 years, John, are the proud parents of two children who also attend St. Mary's. During her free time, Mrs. Thompson enjoys reading, cooking and traveling. Mrs. Thompson and her family are excited to be a part of the St. Mary's family and are already enjoying the close community feel.
Middle School Math Teacher, 6th Grade Homeroom 2014-2016
Mrs. Michelle Storch is very excited to be teaching middle school at St. Mary’s!! This will be her first year at St. Mary’s as a teacher, and her second year as a St. Mary’s parent. She grew up in Mesquite, TX (a suburb of Dallas) and attended Louisiana Tech University on a full Cross Country and Track Scholarship. She earned her degree from La Tech in 1993 in Secondary Education with Math, Health and PE endorsements and has a Social Studies endorsement from the state of Texas. She has experience teaching many subjects on different grade levels (5th – 12) in Choudrant, LA; Mesquite, TX; Grand Prairie, TX; and Ogden, UT. Mrs. Storch also spent four years as a Senior Consultant in Training/Education for a consulting firm based out of London, England. She has traveled the world as a military spouse and spent many years substituting and volunteering in the nearby schools at each assignment. She was honored as the Air Force Spouse of the Year in 2009 for all of her volunteer work at Hill AFB, UT and the surrounding communities. She most recently taught 5th grade at St. Joseph Catholic School in Ogden, UT.
The Air Force brought Mrs. Storch, her active duty husband, Steve, and their five children to Omaha in the summer of 2013. Steve is a meteorologist currently working in the Global Operations Center at STRATCOM. Dane, Jude, Katharina, Cole and Marlee all currently attend St Mary’s. Mrs. Storch continues to attend workshops in religion, math and writing, including online professional education courses offered by Stanford University. In her free time, she enjoys reading, exercising, sports of any kind, outdoor activities, crafting, bible studies, and spending time with her family and friends.
Technology Specialist, 2006-2015
This will be Mrs. Sweeting's 9th year at St. Mary's. She has been teaching 20 years in Catholic schools, from St. John's in the Lincoln Diocese, to Christ the King and St. Wenceslaus in Omaha, before coming to St. Mary's. "I fell in love with teaching in a Catholic school- living and sharing my faith, the real sense of living in community- that I never looked back and have taught in Catholic schools exclusively."
Mrs. Sweeting graduated from UNL with a Bachelor of Science in Education and has a provisional certificate in Middle School Math and Science and is currently completing her IT endorsement. She has taught middle school science, religion, language arts, and math as well as 1st, 4th, and 5th grades. This will be Mrs. Sweeting's third year teaching technology and she is looking forward to the challenges of a growing technology program in the school.
4th Grade, 1994-2015
Mrs. Feagan taught 4th grade at St. Mary's since 1994. She has lived here since 1966 and considers Bellevue her home, though she was born in Germany. Being a military brat and moving around a lot led to her love of history and the outdoors. She gets to share that love of history with her 4th graders by teaching them about Nebraska and talking of her experiences while camping along the Lewis and Clark Trail for 4 weeks and various scout camps throughout the U.S. Mrs. Feagan says her scouting career led her to earn her teaching degree which she received from Peru State College. She also has 24 additional hours of graduate work. She was honored with the "Who's Who Among Teachers" for 2005-2006. Mrs. Feagan and her husband of 38 years, Doug, have three sons, all graduates of St. Mary's School, and all Eagle scouts. Mrs. Feagan has been a scout leader for 25+ years. . She loves teaching 4th grade and enjoys history, photography, camping and traveling to see how God has blessed this land with great beauty.
Mrs. Middendorf graduated from the University of Nebraska at Omaha with a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. She began her teaching career here at St. Mary's in 2012. The military brought Mrs. Middendorf, her husband Dustin, and their three children Makenzie, Taylen, and Macie to Nebraska in 2008. Two of their children attended St. Mary's. She enjoys reading, traveling, spending time with her family, and coaching basketball and softball. "I truly believe this is the place God has called me to be. It has been a wonderful experience. I am enjoying teaching and learning from my students."
Counselor, Middle School Social Studies Teacher, Sixth Grade Homeroom -2014
Mrs. Cheryl Shanker graduated from the College of St. Mary with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History and a specialist endorsement in Social Science. Mrs. Shanker completed her Master's of Science work in Guidance and Counseling at the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO). She has continued her post graduate studies at UNO, Creighton, and Lehigh University, PA. Mrs. Shanker is a Freedoms Foundation Scholar and has traveled the Freedom Trail.
Mrs. Shanker has served on several Archdiocesan Social Studies Committees: Curriculum Development, Textbook Selection, and Outcome Based Education. She is a member of the Catholic School Counselors Committee, Phi Alpha Theta (National History Fraternity), and Phi Delta Gamma (National Graduate Honor Society.) She has taught at Sacred Heart in Sioux City, St. Richards, Holy Ghost, Our Lady of Lourdes in Omaha, and at St. Mary's in Bellevue. She has successfully sponsored several students in Social Studies competitions both at state and national levels.
Mary Ellen Reckmeyer
Librarian/Media Specialist 2009-2014
Mary Ellen Reckmeyer is a St. Mary's School graduate. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in English and a teaching certificate in secondary Language Arts and Reading at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. Later she earned a Master's Degree in elementary education and a library media certificate at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Mrs. Reckmeyer has taught in several Omaha Archdiocesan schools, an Omaha public school, a Westside Community school, and a Department of Defense Dependents school in Germany. She has been the librarian/media specialist here since 2009. Both of her children have attended St. Mary's School.

This is my first year at St. Mary's in Bellevue, but my 3rd year as a teacher. I taught in St. Joseph, MO for a year out of college, and last year I taught at St. Stanislaus for the school's final year before closing. Before the 2013-2014 school year started, I taught Geometry for summer school at Millard North High School. I have taught multiple subjects including Religion, math, vocabulary, English, and science.
I grew up in Omaha, Nebraska, attending St. Joan of Arc for grades K-8 and Mercy High School. After high school, I attended Benedictine College in Atchison, KS where I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree having double majored in Mathematics and Secondary Education. I am happy to be back living in Omaha, as doing so allows me to stay close to my family. I am involved in tutoring middle school students, and I occasionally pick up hours at Hy-Vee where I have been employed for about 7 years. Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, running, cooking, and reading when I can find the time.
7th Grade Homeroom and Middle School Math and Science Teacher 2011-2013
Mrs. Vincent joined Saint Mary's School in 2011 as the Middle School Mathematics and Science Teacher. Mrs. Vincent attended College of Saint Mary in Omaha, Nebraska, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Chemistry and a Master of Arts in Teaching. She has completed 19 Chemistry graduate credits at the University of Nebraska Lincoln (UNL). She is a Girl Scout troop co-leader, served as a kindergarten catechist for six years and was a Teacher Associate for five years at St. Columbkille Catholic School. She and her husband Dave have seven children and two granddaughters.
Kindergarten Teacher 1999-2012
Mrs. Lewis graduated from Creighton University in 1982 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. She taught kindergarten at the La Vista Kinder Care for a year and a half before starting up the kindergarten program at Sts. Peter and Paul School in South Omaha. Mrs. Lewis taught kindergarten there for 15 years before coming to St. Mary's as a kindergarten teacher in 1999. This is Mrs. Lewis' 13th year at St. Mary's School. She and her husband Mark have nine children; eight of whom are St. Mary's graduates (the youngest graduated in 2013). She enjoys quilting and spending time with her family; especially her two grandsons.
